Guest Post & Giveaway with author Terry Spear

Today on My Overstuffed Bookshelf, I have the pleasure of having author Terry Spear! Her book, Wolf Fever, releases this month and she decided to stop by the blog for a guest post!  Directly after the guest post, the Sixth Day of Christmas contest is posted for a chance to win a copy of her book! Let's give her a warm welcome!

Thanks so much for having me, Amy! I thought I’d give you a taste of what Christmas might be like with my werewolves! Enjoy :-)

The aroma of cedar garlands and wreaths pelted Carol Wood’s senses with the heartwarming fragrances—the scents of Christmas—everything from the staircase to the fireplace mantels and the two eight-foot Christmas trees decorated in nature’s finest, pine cones, feathers, red berries, and a soft sprinkle of white lights. As if the forest had found a warm cozy niche in a spacious wolves’ den in the dead of winter.

The waitress Silva snuggled with Sam the bartender in front of the fireplace, the flames blazing hot, although the way she was leaning against him, her back to his chest, his legs caging her in, his mouth nuzzling her hair, Carol imagined they were way hotter than with what the fire was doing to them.

Firewood was already stacked to the hilt in a copper box nearby, compliments of Darien, who couldn’t sit still. Poor man. Lelandi, his mate, was so close to giving birth, that she shooed him outside so he would quit hovering over her.

The fragrance of burning cinnamon candles scented the air, too, as Carol tied another pinecone to the tree with green satin ribbon. Darien’s brother, Jake, carried in a tray full of wassail, declaring that since Silva and Sam were always in charge of refreshments, he’d do the honors this time.

Darien’s youngest triplet brother Tom frowned at the sprig of mistletoe hanging in the entryway of the great room. “Whose idea was it to have mistletoe in every entryway?”

Poor Tom. Unmated and without a partner for the Christmas pack gathering, Carol knew Lelandi was trying to find him someone to date, but to no avail. A string of fresh popcorn draped in her hands, Lelandi entered the room with a smile, her face glowing, the pregnancy suiting her as she headed for the tree to wrap the popcorn strand around the Scotch pine branches.

Carol helped her and smiled as Chester Ryan McKinley entered the room with sacks of Christmas gifts.
Lelandi laughed. “I thought Darien would be Santa Wolf this year. Looks like you outdid him.”

All the wolves would have their own individual family Christmases also, but tonight the pack gathered as they always did—to join in dancing, singing Christmas carols, and eating wild turkey, venison, and all the fixings, along with pumpkin and pecan pies. They would each open one gift, and play card games or chicken foot dominoes, or whatever else they could come up with.

The only thing Carol would miss this Christmas was getting together with her parents, who were strictly human and didn’t know what she’d become. Couldn’t be allowed. Not unless Darien or his brothers could take part in the Christmas festivities at her parents’ home, and that wasn’t about to happen this year anyway. So what did he do to deal with the situation instead? Made it look like her parents won their first ever Christmas cruise to the Caribbean. Her parents couldn’t have been happier, so Carol had to be glad for that.

If it hadn’t been that Carol knew why her parents “won” the trip—to keep Carol with Darien and his brothers and Lelandi—she would have been just as happy for them. But Darien had to ensure she didn’t spill the secret of what she was now. And until she learned to control her shapeshifting abilities, she was an unknown and dangerous quantity—not to be trusted out of a pack member’s sight.

Ryan joined her and gathered her in his arms, and she sighed. Spending this special night with a pack of wolves would be a new experience for her and the fragrances and sounds of Christmas filled her with joy.
“Snowball fight!” Jake said, peering out the window, and headed outside.

Ryan looked down at Carol, waiting for her to make the call. She grabbed his arm and yanked him toward the door.  She knew just who she’d pelt first—the pack leader, who thought he was in charge of her, and Jake, who was always teasing her mercilessly. Tom joined her and Ryan. And Sam and Silva?

Carol thought they had other notions in mind, but wrestling in the snow might cool off some of the heat sizzling between them… one of these days they were sure to mate.

Lelandi winked at Carol as she curled up in the sunroom, settling down to watch the snowball fight from inside. “Darien won’t let me out there to play.”

“I’ll toss one at him for you,” Carol promised with a grin.

Ryan shook his head, and slipped his arm around Carol’s waist, then pulled her outside. “Hasn’t anyone taught you to mind a pack leader?”

“Hmm,” she said, slipping her fingers into his belt loop and giving a pull.  “Which one, Darien, or you?”

Ryan laughed and leaned down to kiss her upturned lips. A snowball smacked him in the shoulder and Ryan glanced over to see Jake targeting him again. Releasing Carol, he quickly formed a snowball and retaliated.

Yeah, Christmas with a pack of werewolves wasn’t quite what Carol had expected. But she was loving every moment of it!

To werewolves and werewolf lovers everywhere, have a Merry Christmas, from my wolves to you! And if you’d like to read Ryan and Carol’s WHOLE story, pick up Wolf Fever and see how they ever made it to the Christmas celebration!
Thanks again for having me, Amy!

THANK YOU Terry for joining us today! I have already read Wolf Fever and I know the fans are going to love it as well!! I am addicted to this series!

On the Sixth Day of Christmas
gave to you:
 WOLF FEVER by Terry Spear
She may be his destiny, but she's not his first choice…
Hospital nurse and newly turned red werewolf Carol Woods is being pressured by her pack leader to find a mate, but he's the only guy in the pack who remotely attracts her… Why is he playing so hard to get?

The fate of the pack rests on his shoulders…
Gray pack leader Ryan McKinley doesn't want anything to do with Carol unless she's willing to embrace her wolf nature—no matter how beautiful she is.

But when a virus infects the local lupus garou pack, Ryan realizes just how wrong he's been not to seize the moment with the woman he's come to love. And now, it may be too late…

Hi, ladies! Thanks so much for dropping by!

And, Amy, thanks so much for generously hosting me! Just for everyone's information, this is the wolf pack from Destiny of the Wolf, Book 2, continuing in Book 6, Wolf Fever, with Carol's story. This "Christmas scene" is not in any of the stories--it's just a way to show what the pack will do once they've dealt with some more of the conflict in their lives.

Not that it's all over! Dreaming of the Wolf, Book 8, is Jake's story, Darien's next eldest triplet brother...so more problems to come! Of course! What would you expect from a wolf, uhm, werewolf pack???

Thanks again, Amy!
