I am a huge cookbook fanatic.  I may not be the best cook, but if it is easy and sounds good, you can bet I am going to try it.  I also love slow cooker recipes.  I love the ability to Fix-It and Forget-It.  This one featured some great dishes and sides that would be great for the holidays, but also great year round.  I have already included a few of them for my dinners for the upcoming holiday week!

I never realized how many desserts can be made in a crock pot!  I didn't think breads or candy apples could be accomplished with one.  This book features step by step recipes on creating these treats with some even having little effort/prep time.

This cookbook was great for giving ideas for snacking and drinking.  I loved all the appetizers and dips that were provided.  I am a huge cheese fan and this book gave me some new ideas for dips to use all year.  While some of the recipes focus on holiday theme, I did think that most of them could be adapted for all year long.  It also had some that would be great for Superbowl weekend and birthday parties. The beverage recipes range from original apple cider all the way to coffee.

RATING FOR ALL THREE
Outstanding book that will stay on my bookshelf for rereading!

Included are more than 350 recipes, stunning full-color photographs, and stories of the people, places, and traditions of Middle Tennessee.

MY TAKE:
Who knew you could make such great recipes with Whiskey? I am not a heavy drinker, but now that I know I can use this whiskey for cooking great dishes, people might start seeing me in the alcohol department more at the store. There are some amazing, mouth-watering recipes in this book that I can't wait to try. Here are just a few of the recipes you will find in this cookbook:

Hot Toddy (which my mom made when I was little and sick.)
Whiskey Nut Bread
Flaming Tennessee Tenderloin
Black Jack Cake

You get the idea! Yummy sounding recipes with a little kick in them! Go ahead and give them a try! Even if you don't like the recipe, you always have the whiskey for afterwards!

MY RATING:

Very Good! Worth Spending Your Money on!

HIGHER GROUNDS: The Little Book of Coffee Culture

Higher Grounds: The Little Book of Coffee Culture

(Review Copy): From Janice at Arsenal Pulp Press
  • Paperback: 96 pages
  • Publisher: Arsenal Pulp Press; Min edition (July 1, 2002)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1551520184
  • ISBN-13: 978-1551520186

Coffee is the soma of the nineties, and Higher Grounds is your guidebook to the zeitgeist, whether it's truck-stop "Swedish gasoline" or a "half-double decaffeinated half-caf with a twist of lemon." Includes quotations, recipes, definitions, and a lexicon of essential coffeeisms.

MY TAKE:
I love coffee. Every morning I enjoy at least 2 cups with my hubby before he must take off to work. I love the smell. When I was little I can remember my mom taking me to the grocery store and I would love to stop at the coffee grinder section and just sit and smell the coffee beans. Now that I am older, I still do it. It amazes me how many different kinds of coffee there is out there. Also, there are so many ways to make it. Capuccino, espresso, fraps, decaf, regular, and the list goes on! This book will give you the definitions of the terms, little recipes to make with coffee, and quotes from various people. Very cute and humorous quotes are also throughout the book. Perfect little book for the coffee lover for the upcoming seasons!

MY RATING:

A Good Book and Read!
