SPREAD THE LOVE SUNDAY!

It's Sunday and that means another edition of Spread The Love Sunday! This is a weekly event here on My Overstuffed Bookshelf where I give back to my readers who have been great friends, followers, inspiration and all around great people! A place to showcase YOU!

If you would like to be featured on Spread the Love Sunday, just drop me an email and I will be happy to feature you!

This week we have Brande from Book Junkie!

Name or screen name: Book Junkie (Brande)
Blog: Book Junkie (http://myfoolishwisdom.blogspot.com

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

My blog is basically reviews; I run my own contests as well as run Book Junkie II with contests around the blogosphere. I have branched out with Author Interviews, guest authors who also run contests on my blog. More or less just a rambling of my thoughts on the latest book I just finished.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

It was about a year ago that I started my blog, at first I just felt like I wanted to put my own thoughts and reviews down online. I didn’t know if anyone would follow and honestly not sure I cared because I was and still have this feeling deep down and no one wants to hear what I have to say, that no one will read it anyway so what the heck. Then I started skimming around and saw all the contests, well I was over the moon excited, free books! Get outta here! I was all over it, and the people I meet were so helpful and amazing I couldn’t be happier that I took that first step.
I would have to say my favorite thing is the interaction, authors, other bloggers, can’t beat it anywhere. You put a call out for help with someone and 10 people write you back instantly. Everyone is so kind and I love how everyone is just so excited about books! It’s my happy place.

3. A few faves:

Author- Keta Diablo, Shiela Stewart, Shelli Stevens
Book- Land of the Falling Starts by Keta Diablo and Highland Dragon my Kimberley Killion, Colter’s Woman by Maya Banks
Genre- Erotic Romance ties with my new love of Historicals
Color- black
Place to purchase books- booksonboard.com or Borders

4. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

Wow, that is a toughie, I would have to say Holly Bardwell from Colter’s Woman, if you know anything about this book you know why! OR Marissa, Butch’s mate from J.R Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood book 4 Lover Revealed, strong in her own right, a vampire and has the love of my favorite cop turned vamp Butch! Just delicious!

5. What book are you currently reading?

I am reading 2 actually, The Sin Eater’s Prince by Keta Diablo and also Wicked Proposal by Tierney O'Malley

6. Name a few of your favorite blogs.

Hum, I don’t know if I could name one, I have to many that are on my top. But I will tell you some new one’s I found that I really like :
Cherry Mischievous
Cari Quinn, Girl Writer
Library Lounge Lizard
Lust In Time
Naughty Author Chicks

7. Any advice for new bloggers?

Hang in there, I remember every moment when I saw, OMG, I have 3 followers, OMG I have 9 followers. Your followers will come don’t fret, just keep up your great reviews and they will come, run a few contests, even one book small ones, write authors and start your communication with them, even if it is just to tell them how much you love their book. Don’t get carried away, it can be overwhelming at times, but have fun because books is what we all love, no matter the genre we all share the passion and the are so many wonderful bloggers out there who will help you when you need it.

Thanks for joinging us Brande! Be sure to check out her blog!

This week we have Becky!

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

Page Turners is a blog where I review every book (and ebooks) that I read. The reviews cover why I chose to read the book, what the book is about and what I thought of it, including a recommendation.  If you see a lot of Australian books reviewed that’s because its been my goal for some time to read a lot more Australian literature, as I’m born and bred in Sydney Australia. Its just meant to be a fun place for me to talk about my books and hope that other people want to read them as well!

I hope that it’s interesting, because I’m very enthusiastic about it. I want people to feel my enthusiasm for books and reading when they read my blog and I hope that my recommendations are useful for people looking for their next great book.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

I began my blog initially more as a diary for myself to keep some record of what I was reading. I felt like I was just finishing a book and then moving onto the next without taking any time to think about what I had read. Over time though, it has evolved into something more, and I hope that it will keep evolving and more people will enjoy it!

My favourite thing about having a blog is that not only do I get to read the books, but I get to re-live them by writing a about them!

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

That’s a difficult one, but I think that I would have to give in to the daggy side of me and say Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. She is just amazing. So self assured and sensible, but still kind and fun. I love the way she loves her family and stands up for them no matter what. I love the courage she has to stand up and be herself in the face of ridicule. And I love the fact that she gets her man in the end.

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

Wow, that’s a really tricky one, I definitely can’t say that I have one favourite author. I would have to say that my favourites are Margaret Atwood, Isabel Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jane Austen and Richard Flanagan (an Australian author that I highly recommend!).

5. What is your favorite genre to read?
I don’t know that I have a favourite genre to read – I think the books that I read would have to be classed as general fiction. I love general fiction and classics. I also try to read some children’s literature, just to take me back to my childhood.

6. What book are you reading right now?
I am reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. My boyfriend’s sister gave it to me for Christmas this year, it’s her favourite book and I hope that I enjoy it just as much as she did.

I am also reading The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit. I loved the movie as a child but I have never read it, so I downloaded it onto my iphone and I’m off and away. So far Im really loving it, I love the children’s generosity and naivety.

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.
I enjoy reading quite a few, but my favourites are My Overstuffed Bookshelf (of course), At Home with Books, A Novel Menagerie, J Kaye’s Book Blogs, Bookworming in the 21st Century, Good Books and Good Wine and The Blog Doctor (for all my blogging needs).

8. Any tips for new bloggers?
As a new blogger myself, I’m still trying to get my own blog going. I did read a tip somewhere that I plan to keep in mind – to remember that blogging is meant to be fun and that no matter how many people do (or don’t) follow your blog, to keep having fun and enjoying yourself!

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

This past summer I happened to have done some major damage to my back, unsure of what the cause of it, Lots of Doctors visits and Emergency Visits later found out I had to have a back surgery, Seeing I was gonna be home for an undetermained amount of time I decided to create a blog for books and my writing when i felt up to it as well as some of my graphic design work.
Long story short, lol I am home for good at moment and figured why not... I have so thoroughly enjoyed having my blog, and quite excited to announce that I have weekly Author Spotlights/Giveaways coming up Until the middle of march, thanks to all the wonderful authors.

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

Hmmmm, that truly is a tough decision, I would have to say Andrea "Andy Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger...She shows up completely geeky, horribly dressed but evolves throughout the story to become what she truly is a hard working go getter, proving everyone that doubted her, that she was better than they all first judged her as.

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

Lots of these, Meg Cabot, Lisa McMann, Chloe Neill, Melissa Walker, Sarah Dessen, Dave Pelzer and James Redfield

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

I would have to say Young Adult with some Paranormal Romance but I am very picky about the paranormal I read.

Currently Reading Fade by Lisa McMann

Mindful Musings by Natalie, this is actually my inspiration blog, Cleverly Inked my first true follower, two of a kind working on a full house, has great Childrens toy reviews and giveaways for moms and kids alike, ParaJunkee's View and My Style bloggers, keep me both creatively inspired and hoping for the best. And last but certainly not least Pure Imagination by Lori, she is just a very help sweet lady, especially when i need some scripting help.

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Message the owners of some of your favorite bloggers, if you need help looking for something they have on their site, most are nice enough to help...also network through some of the bookblogging networks they have through Ning. Also if you twitter, lots of others do as well and if you add them you can both promote your blog/contests as well as learn about lots of other ones.

This week I have Kayla here!

Name: Kayla
Blog: Sexy Women Read @ sexywomenread.blogspot.com

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

Well, my blog is for people who like to read romance books! It is strictly a book blog that only features romance novels. There are reviews, and sometimes a couple writing tips. I don't hold my own contests, but every now and then, when I find a really great contest, I'll also post them on my blog.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

I love to read, it's my hobby. A few friends and I read the same books (I got them hooked!) but after a while, I ran out of good books to read. So, I turned to the internet to search for some new books. I found some, okay, I found a lot, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted somewhere to go to be able to have lists and reviews on some great romance books that real people actually read and said what they thought. Which is why I took it upon myself to start a blog to do just that. :) My favorite thing about having a blog is when people comment on the book posts telling me how much they love the book or author I talked about.

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

You have to ask the hardest question in the world, don't you?! LOL I would have to say I would love to be Emma from Kresley Cole's Hunger Like No Other because then Lochlain would be all mine!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

I can't choose one, it's impossible, so I'll give you a (brief) list: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, J. R. Ward, Gena Showalter, Lynsay Sands, Roxanne St.Claire, Shayla Black, Jaquelyn Frank, and sooo many more it's crazy!

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

Genre? Romance.
Subcatagory? Paranormal, hands down.

6.What book are you reading right now?

Right now (I just started it this morning!) I'm reading Take Me Tonight by Roxanne St.Claire

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

First off, I love this blog right here! It's great Amy. :)
To name a few more..
8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Keep blogging! A blog filled with old updates is a boring blog! Even if you pop in to say "I'm busy right now, sorry, I'll write again soon", it let's readers know that you haven't forgot them. Also, I have a feeling vlogs are going to make a big slash soon, so if you want to jump on that boat, it would be something cool.

Thank you so much Kayla for joining us today!!!

SPREAD THE LOVE SUNDAY!

This week we get to know Blanche!

Name: Blanche

Blog: No Such Thing As Too Many Books

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

I LOVE books, always have and always will! My blog is a place where I can share with anyone who happens to drop by the books and authors I love!

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

I started my blog just over a year ago mostly to have a place to keep track of my books! As you probably guessed by the blog name.....there really is no such thing as too many books (as far as I am concerned) and my TBR will attest to that!! I actually never thought anyone would read it or be interested in it but people are! My favorite thing about it has to be the people I "meet" each day. I've discovered many new to me authors and genres and some days I don't even post about books, I just share every day life and those who stop by do the same! I think the one thing we all have in common is our love for books and it is so neat to see people from all corners of the world come together to share that love of books and reading!

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

Mary Elizabeth Potter from Mackenzie's Mountain (by Linda Howard)!!!! I know for a fact that everyone who has read this book has fallen in love with Wolf but I am staking my claim here.....he is MINE! :)

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

I have many favorite authors and this list could get very long so I'm just going to list a few. These are authors I "auto-buy" and their books always end up on my keeper shelf!
Linda Howard, Catherine Anderson, Lori Foster, Alison Kent, Maya Banks, Jaci Burton, Amy Knupp, Larissa Ione, Stephanie Tyler, Diana Palmer, Shayla Black, Lora Leigh and Lorelei James! I have many more but I'll stop here!

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

I love romance and will pretty much try any genre atleast once. There are certain one's that make me squirm so I tend to stay away from them unless I know the author and know where they are coming from in the book. I don't read horror either.....too many nightmares!

6. What book are you reading right now?

I'm not reading right now and actually haven't read anything in some time! I'm in a slump but hoping to get out of it ASAP!! I need to get started on Outlander for a challenge I am doing and I have a ton of really neat books sitting here that I want to read!

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

I have sooooooooooooooooooo many favorite blogs! If you visit my blog you will see my blog roll, I seem to add a blog or 2 to it each day! I know there are many I've not yet discovered but I'm working on it!!

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Stick to what you love! Don't think you need to follow the group or that your opinion or voice won't be heard......share the things you love and most importantly have fun!!

This week we get to know Kristina!

Name: Kristina

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

- Well my blog is basically about all the books I read. Since I'm a new blogger these are
the books off my shelves...the books from the library...etc. I can't say that I plan on
sticking to one genre because there are so many books I enjoy. If you look at my blog
you will notice that it consists mostly of paranormal stuff right now.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

-Initially a few months ago I started my blog to share my scrapbooking and photography
(my other two hobbies). I kind of waffled on that one then decided to start blogging
about the books I read. I did this because nobody at home seemed really interested in
hearing what I had to say about my books...they love me but are not dedicated readers
myself.
-At this point my favorite thing about blogging is the new people I've gotten to talk to and
all the great new books I've found out about! (Although that part is not great for the
wallet LOL!)

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

-Ok this is a hard one for me! But I think I would love to be Beth, shellan of Wrath, from
JR Wards Dark Lover. I love the Brothers and Wrath is my favorite...I would so be his girl!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

- I have several authors I enjoy reading and I always buy their books. Obviously J.R.Ward
*smirk* love her stuff. Charlaine Harris (I'm a big Sookie Fan and the fact that they are
southern based is the cherry on top). I enjoy Michele Hauf's writing, Stephanie Meyer
*please don't pummel me*, Nicholas Sparks (He makes me cry alot), and I'm sure there
are others I'm forgetting but I'm pretty sure I was only suppose to pick one author right?
LOL

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

-Well I love paranormal romance (I'm a sucker for a good shifter or werewolf...or heck
even a faerie!) I love YA Paranormal (they're not so serious all the time).

6. What book are you reading right now?

-Right at this moment I am reading "Witch Child" by Celia Rees which I'll be following up
with "Sorceress" the sequel to my current read.

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

-Well this is hard! I like so many! Including this one!
http://allthingsurbanfantasy.blogspot.com/
http://peekingbetweenthepages.blogspot.com/
http://vampchix.blogspot.com/
http://parajunkee.blogspot.com/
http://darkfaerietales.com/
http://agoodaddiction.blogspot.com/
Well that is tough! I follow so many blogs and I enjoy them all for so many different
reasons that it's really hard!

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

LOL....actually if anyone has any tips for me that would be great! Seriously though the
best advice I can give is get out there and visit other blogs and make friends!

Today I have Sasha and let's get to know about her and her blog!

Name : Sasha
Blog : Sasha & The Silverfish

http://silverfysh.wordpress.com

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

Sasha & The Silverfish is an online journal—okay, online journal is so 1999—fine, a blog—dedicated to reading. Well, mostly my reading. My books. My odd hours spent burning away with a book on my hands—all those dishes unwashed, all the work I should be doing withering away. It’s a blog dedicated to my book thoughts, my book ramblings, my unbelievably dorky-passionate love for the written word. All those mys might seem a little selfish—but really, I wanted a platform where I could express what I felt and thought about a book, where I could share my reading experience.

I strive for honest “reviews”, and according to the feedback, that’s what they are. :) When it’s Meh, it’s because I was Meh when I read it. When it’s OHYAY, it’s because it was. When it’s BAH-EWW, it’s because it really really was. They’re my thoughts, my feelings. And I know I can back them up.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

A little background on me: I’m currently finishing my BFA in Creative Writing (a minor in Lit’s done, wahoo), so, well, I write—one would think that there’s lots and lots of reading and book-sharing. There is, but it’s academic, it’s graded. In more casual moments, it’s poetics that’s on the spotlight. I don’t remember us ever talking at length about books, no OMGBOOKS. So that’s one reason why I started my blog—I wanted to talk at length about OMGBOOKS. :)

The blog idea was sparked when I looked dismally at my growing TBRs. When would I ever get to read all those books? So the blog was supposed to help me keep track of my reading. I always made notes on my notebooks about books, but I wanted a public platform. And that’s one of the best things about having a blog—getting to communicate with people who have the same interests as you, and as dorky-passionate about them. I love discovering that people felt the way I felt, or were feeling completely different things.

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

Some days I want to be Jane Eyre—I always feel giddy when I read that “Reader, I married him,” at the final chapter. Darn it, does this mean I like women in the attic and brooding men? I grew up with Jane—my mother has had the book on her nightstand since forever, and as a little girl, we’d read about this plain, mousy woman who gets everything she wants [even an uncle from Madeira!]

Some days I want to be MacKayla from Moning’s Fever series—she’s kick-ass, and then there’s Barrons!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

Alice Munro, Carol Shields and Lorrie Moore, for their short fiction. Joan Silber. June Spence. Alice Hoffman. Lakambini Sitoy, Wilfrido Nolledo. Throw in Roland Barthes to mix things up. I’ve always been crazy about Raymond Carver, and now I’m feeling the same way about Richard Yates. Miranda July, Ann Beattie. And then there’s the countless romance novelists I have on my keeper shelf: Karen Marie Moning, Mary Balogh (her Bedwyns!), Sarah McCarty, Lorelei James, Laura Lee Guhrke. I just discovered Anna Campbell and Courtney Milan—they’re breathtaking. Oof, I have to stop.

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

I like literary fiction—novels, and short stories. I suppose, well, I’m a die-hard realism fan, haha. There are some poets I like—I’m very picky, haha: Mark Strand, Billy Collins, Richard Siken. And I love my romance novels, and I’ve never had reason to be guilty about them—I don’t think I can go a week without reading at least one.

6. What book are you reading right now?

As of writing this, I’m not reading anything—just schoolwork and doing some watercoloring for an upcoming show. There’s a Read-A-Thon on Dec. 5, so I figure I’d catch up there. But I’m sure I’ll pick up a book before then, haha. Maybe What the Duke Desires, by Jenna Petersen. Maybe Her Last Death, Susanna Sonnenberg’s memoir. :)

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

It has to be "Aside from you," right? ;)

> BiblioAddict http://www.whosabiblioaddict.com/

> A Guy’s Moleskine Notebook http://mattviews.wordpress.com/

> Boston Bibliophile http://shelflove.wordpress.com/

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Dear New Bloggers: Just chill. See, I’ve only been blogging steadily for less than two months (I’m a new blogger too!)—and sometimes, the pressure to get things out there got to me. Sometimes, we just have to step back—it’s okay for a dip in your stats, or to miss a day or two or seventeen. And this is cliché—but, please, have fun. It can get nasty, you’ll obsess, even your reading could be tainted (“Would my readers want me to mention this?”)

Oh! And never, ever, ever, let your book blogging take precedence over your book reading. :)

Take a look around the blogosphere. Comment! Make friends. But yes—having fun is key, loving your books and reading should be a matter of fact. :)

SPREAD THE LOVE SUNDAY!

It's Sunday and it's time for another edition of Spread the Love Sunday! Every Sunday I interview a fellow book blogger who I have found along the way of my endless book blog searching! Today's guest is one of my early followers who has been a great inspiration to me!

NAME: Michelle
BLOG: red headed book child

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

My blog is best described as a General
Reviewer Blog, meaning that I don't stick to one genre at ALL. I like to read just about anything so that is reflected. It also has a bit about my family, cute pics of my kiddo, not so cute pics of me, my snarky yet fabulous writing style/humor (wink) and my overall obsession with books and therefore, fabulous taste in.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

Well, I knew nothing of the blogosphere when I started but friends told me I needed an outlet after being laid off or else I was going to start talking to corners, if you know what I mean! My passion for books had to go somewhere new. I had been working in books for ten years and it was very sudden and life changing to have that end. Aside from the blog, I really discovered that I didn't need that career to continue connecting with people in the book world. Turns out I already had a following of people who respected my opinion when it came to books. That helped boost my confidence when starting this blog and it went on from there!

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

It will change, of course, because i am such a crush crazy (yes, married) girl. I would love to be Claire from The Time Traveler's Wife only because the love she had with Henry was so special. Or I would be Alyss from The Looking Glass Wars because I have all sorts of fancy visions of her and Dodge (hunky protector) running away all romantic like!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

This also changes. Right now it is Frank Beddor (The Looking Glass Wars). Ongoing I always love Meg Rosoff, Laurie Notaro, Kate Morton, Jodi Picoult, Sarah Waters, Dennis Lehane, John Connolly, and Beth Gutcheon.

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

M
eaty novels I call them or Literary novels. Mysteries, Young Adult, Humor and Memoirs round out my favs.

6. What book are you reading right now?

One? I am currently reading These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer and Mistletoe Murder by Leslie Meier.

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

You, of course!
Jenny at TakeMeAway,

Ryan at Wordsmithonia,
Mel at He Followed me home,
Lisa at Lit and Life,
Michelle at The True Book Addict,
Melissa at My World,
Amo at When a woman shakes her tablecloth,
Julie at My 5 Monkeys,
Karen at Novels during Naptime
and Christine at Happily Ever After...
to name a few. Um, I guess I like quite a bit. There are more....so many more...!

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

What's helped me best is to remind myself why I am doing this, which is to have fun, read lots and meet a great book loving community. It's important to me to not feel obligated to have my blog be a certain way or do so much that it's not fun anymore. it's easy to get swept away in all of the stuff to do! Be honest, be sincere and respect your fellow bloggers. Oh and discover Book Blogs.ning. That helps!

Be sure to check back next week for a new edition of Spread The Love and be sure to check out Michelle's blog! You won't be disappointed!
